The expertise on ultra-high resolution remote sensing surveying with UAV by ZEPHYRUS/P&M research team, especially under extreme environments, lead Gonçalo Vieira to collaborate in the project MEGAWAVE – Unravelling the hazard potential of tsunamis triggered by volcanic flank collapses, lead by Ricardo Ramalho (IDL-ULISBOA). The objective of the field work was surveying relict coastal deposits in Sal Island. The campaign was very successful despite the challenging permament strong winds that prevail from November to May in Sal Island. It is great to work in the Tropics!
The course on "Mountains on a Changing Planet" took place at Manteigas, with two field trips in the Serra da Estrela, in 7 and 8 december 2019. ZEPHYRUS members Carla Mora and Gonçalo Vieira were the lecturers at the course, which also counted with a lecture by Emanuel de Castro, Executive Director of the Estrela Geopark and Carmen Miñano Soncco, masters students at IGOT.
